Danish scientists released new research Sunday (March 7th) on the importance of Vitamin D, finding that the immune system's killer cells, called T cells, rely on Vitamin D to become active. If there isn't enough of the vitamin in the blood, T cells remain dormant and unaware of the possibility of a threat from an infection or pathogen. Most Vitamin D is made by the body as a by-product of exposure to sunlight, and it can also be found in fish liver oil, eggs and fatty fish, or be taken as a supplement. Nearly half of the world's population has lower than ideal Vitamin D levels, and the problem is getting worse as people spend more time indoors.
