TERRE HAUTE (WIBQ) - As youngsters get ready to return to school, the Salvation Army on South Eighth Street is hoping the public will step up to help Vigo County school kids by providing basic school supplies. Starting next week the organization will begin receiving donations of school supplies and cash to help provide the items.

The Salvation Army will then provide the school supplies to parents of qualifying Vigo County school children from August 10th to the 12th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and on August 13th from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Some of the items provided this year include spiral notebooks, looseleaf paper, rulers, scissors, crayons, pencils, glue, pens and colored pencils. It's expected that 1,200 hundred kid will need help with supplies this year. Last year the Salvation Army gave out enough supplies for 900 students.
